Our monthly book club is back ! New for 2020, our bookclubs are being partnered with delicious grazing tables both at brunch + supper. 

For our March book club we will be reading Olive Kitteridge, a novel by Elizabeth Strout. During the session we will be discussing everything from theme, plot, characters, dialect, writing style, opinion and more. Our informal book club has a loose strategy to prompt an open discussion that readers are encouraged to join in. 

The brunch grazing table will be created by Suzanne White at The Complete Retreat and will focus on a Nordic themed brunch. There will be a varied choice of homemade sweet and savoury sharing plates including different breads, cakes and pastries, fresh fruit and granola pots. Unlimited teas, coffee and fresh juices will be served throughout. Vegan and GF options will be available. 

Please purchase your own copy of the book, read in advance and bring along to the meet. Please also feel free to bring along any notes or questions you would like to discuss at the book club. 

Please note that due to the book club taking place in a first floor apartment with no lift access, it unfortunately is not suitable for people with mobility difficulties.

Learn all the skills required to create your very own solid silver ring from scratch (a gold option is also available). Using traditional silversmithing techniques, Lucy herself will be on hand during the workshop to closely guide you through each step of creating your own version of the much loved 3 Pearls Ring from her original collection.

Absolutely no experience needed, Lucy will show you a range of different techniques from annealing, forging and soldering to cutting, filing and polishing.

To make sure everyone gets the best experience, our classes will be kept to a maximum of ten people and a minimum of four. Workshops are subject to reschedule if the minimum is not met - please contact us with any queries regarding this.

Description

Cedar’s Lizzy will talk you through the candle making process step by step. You will be able to smell all of their signature fragrances and essential oils and will make two soy wax candles to take away with you to enjoy. You will first use fragrance oils to make a 180ml candle and then you will blend essential oils to make a 120ml candle.

All materials will be provided and the workshop includes a free glass of prosecco, feel free to bring your own bottle if you like ! Your candles will need to cure overnight so you can can either collect from Object the next day or have them posted out to you the following week.

Make your own botanical embroidery with artist Rebecca Stevens in the beautiful settings of Object Style in Chorlton. 

During the session, you’ll be taught 3 simple embroidery stitches to make a floral design. 

All materials will be provided, including:

• A glass of prosecco on arrival

• 5-inch embroidery hoop

• A range of botanical designs to choose from

• A choice of fabric

• Needle, threads and scissors

You will be able to take your work at the end of the workshop to hang in your home or gift to a loved one!

Guidance and stitching advice will be given throughout the session, alongside written instructions. 

You’ll also receive a Tips and Tricks sheet for continuing stitching after the workshop, including a list of brilliant suppliers to buy all the essentials from!

Fison Zair Studio and Object Style join forces to host an afternoon of making in Object’s Apartment.

MAKER PROFILE

Designer Katy Aston is the creator of Fison Zair; a creative colour studio which she runs from her garden studio in Sheffield. The studio encompasses design, styling, colourfully handcrafted products and creative workshops. Her contemporary jewellery is currently what she is most recognised for. She loves nothing more than working with a great colour palette alongside simple yet edgy products. 

WORKSHOP OVERVIEW

Katy will take you through the steps to designing and making your own polymer clay statement earrings, using your chosen colour palette. Following an introduction and small demonstration, you will have an hour to develop your design. There will be time for a break whilst your components bake and a chance to browse the beautifully curated Object store. Finally we will add the finishing touches to your earrings ready for you to wear home!

This is a great experience to learn a new skill, make new friends a meet the maker. You will create a unique piece to wear or gift.

VENUE

Independent store Object work with directional brands built on craftsmanship, quality + simplicity. Their carefully curated collection of menswear, womenswear and objects for the home, have been personally hand-sourced by husband and wife team Alex & Rachael. The workshop will take place in their newly renovated apartment above the store.

Description

A two-hour workshop in which participants make their own unique Jesmonite numbers for interior or exterior design use. With Designer-Makers May Wild Studio, applying our bespoke mould-making and casting technique using Jesmonite, an environmentally friendly acrylic and resin-based material which is solvent and VOC's free. 

Choosing a number design from a selection of modern fonts you will be guided through the mould-making process.  You will then mix and cast the Jesmonite material, an opportunity to discover the unique qualities of Jesmonite through play and experimentation, exploring a range of decorative colour, pattern and textures to create your own unique design.  

During the setting period there will be a break for refreshments and also an opportunity for conversation with May Wild Studio about their design practice, the number casting workshop and the material Jesmonite. You will then remove your numbers from their mould to reveal your unique outcome. 

 You can take the numbers with you in their raw state or alternatively leave them with May Wild Studio to sand and apply a finish coat suitable for external use, ready for collection from Object 3 days later.

Skill Level – No previous Craft/Design experience required, each stage of the process and materials used are safe and demonstrated beforehand, you will be guided and assisted through the workshop by Rebecca & Michael of May Wild Studio.
